Beginner Group Walks Through the SAFE Lens

    Turning Practice Into Real Life

Whether your dog is fearful, fizzy, or somewhere in between, real progress happens when training leaves the house. That’s exactly what our Group Walks are designed to do. Bring your skills into the real world in a way that feels safe, supported, and meaningful.

Using the SAFE Framework (Security, Attachment, Functional Skills, and Environment) we guide both ends of the leash through experiences that build confidence, clarity, and connection.

    S — Security: Creating a Learning Zone

    Everything starts with safety.

On our walks, we prioritize helping each dog find their learning zone, that space where they can notice the world without becoming overwhelmed. Staying at a safe distance isn’t a setback; it’s a strategy. When dogs feel secure, they can think, process, and learn.

We also practice using visual barriers like cars, trees, and space itself to reduce pressure. Sometimes the best way to support your dog is simply to give them less to handle.

A — Attachment: Building Trust in Motion

Your dog doesn’t just need skills; they need you.

These walks strengthen the relationship between dog and handler through shared experiences. You’ll learn how to:

    • Recognize your dog’s communication

    • Respond with clarity and calmness

    • Become a reliable guide in unpredictable environments

And just as importantly, you’ll find yourself surrounded by other humans who get it. No pressure, no judgment; just support, empathy, and shared wins.

F — Functional Skills: Real-World Tools That Work

This is where training comes to life.

We practice practical, in-the-moment skills that help dogs navigate the world successfully:

    • The “3-Second Rule” to prevent fixation and encourage disengagement

    • Pattern games like Find It, Watch Me, and Let’s Go! to redirect focus

    • Loose leash walking with thoughtful handling and reinforcement

    • Exit strategies like U-turns and increasing distance before overwhelm hits

These aren’t just exercises; they’re tools your dog can rely on when it matters most.

E — Environment: Learning to Process the World

The world is full of information, and not all dogs know how to handle it yet.

We give dogs the time and space they need to process their environment. That means allowing for sniffing, scanning, pausing & observing everything in the environment.

This “threat assessment” process is how dogs build confidence. Instead of rushing them through it, we honor it because resilience grows when dogs are allowed to experience the world, not just react to it.

    More Than a Walk

These group walks aren’t about perfect behavior; they’re about progress.

We see dogs learning how to regulate their emotions.
We see humans gaining confidence and clarity.
We see teams becoming stronger, step by step.

And that’s where real transformation happens.

    Spring Group Walk Schedule

    Community Walk- Tuesday at 11AM

This group will be walking through neighborhoods & parks providing gentle exposure to people, other dogs, traffic, and common neighborhood distractions. In May we start each walk at the Training Center where everyone can learn basic skills for success. Then we will move around to various places within Kingsford and surrounding communities.

    A SAFE Walk - Tuesday at 5PM

This group will be sticking to the commercial environments around the Training Center where distractions can be monitored and more distance can be utilized. We suggest all new Group Walk Teams start here to find your sweet spot at a distance that works for you and your dog.

Trail Walk - Friday at 11AM

This is for our experienced group walkers who want to expand into more nature based environments where we can still work around people & dogs, but also bigger distractions that are less predictable. This is your group to let out the "Inner Explorer" in both you and your dog. Teams must be pre-approved, having completed a minimum of 3 sessions with Penny & a test walk with Belle or one of our other teams.

    Ready to Get Started?

All new clients begin with a Behavior Evaluation so we can create the right starting point for your dog’s journey.

If you’re ready to turn your training into everyday confidence, we’d love to walk alongside you.

📨 Reserve your spot at one of our Group Walks by sending us an email.

Let’s build safety, trust, and real-life skills one walk at a time.
