Spring Reset: One Small Thing
What’s been hard for you this week?
And maybe a second question to go with it: What did you plan to do… but didn’t quite get to?
Maybe life got busy.
Maybe the weather didn’t cooperate.
Maybe your energy, or your dog’s, just wasn’t there.
If that sounds familiar?
When Plans Don’t Go as Planned
This week, I had every intention of getting out on some hikes with my dogs. Fresh air, movement, time on the trails… the kind of reset we all look forward to. But between health stuff and spring storms rolling through, it just didn’t happen. And for a moment, it’s easy to feel like: “Welp… there goes the plan.”
But here’s where the Spring Reset mindset comes in…
Shift the Question
Instead of focusing on what didn’t happen, try asking:
👉 What’s one small thing I can do today?
Not the ideal plan. Not the full routine. Just one doable step.
Real-Life Examples (From My Week)
No hikes? No problem! Here are a few possible suggestions.
Training from the car: Park somewhere safe, crack the windows, and let your dog observe the world. This is a great place to play the Look At That game where your dog notices something, then checks back in with you for positive reinforcement.
Indoor nosework: Scatter treats, hide food, let your dog use their nose in a calm, low-pressure way.
Backyard games: Short, simple moments of movement and connection right outside your door.
None of these replace a full hike, but doing something is better than doing nothing!
Those little moments?
They build:
confidence
connection
problem-solving skills
emotional regulation
And just as importantly, they help you stay consistent without burning out. Because progress doesn’t come from perfect weeks. It comes from showing up in small ways, over and over again
Your Spring Reset Reminder
You don’t need the perfect setup. You don’t need a full plan. You just need:
✔ one small moment
✔ one simple activity
✔ one doable step
So if this week didn’t go how you planned… That’s okay.
Start here: What’s one small thing you can do today?
SAFE to say… the life you want with your dog is built in the small moments.”
Don’t skip them; they matter more than you think!
